The program was created and developed in 2002 as a “Model Cessation Practice”.
The program helps pregnant women quit smoking and stay quit utilizing a unique incentive.
The program's cessation criteria is based on the
Clinical Practice Guidelines for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence.

In 2005, the program received a “Model Practice Award” by the
National Association of City
and County Health Officials (NACCHO).
From 2006 to 2009, the Baby & Me – Tobacco Free program was funded as a research project by the
NY State Tobacco Control Program.
