WHO WE ARE
Baby & Me Tobacco Free
Baby & Me Tobacco Free (BMTF) has successfully helped over 40,000+ mothers become Tobacco Free!
The Baby & Me Tobacco Free Program strives to inspire and empower pregnant women and their families to overcome nicotine addiction and work to support communities in disrupting the generational impacts of tobacco.
The program is structed to offer support, guidance, and incentives to pregnant individuals who are committed to quitting smoking and ensuring a tobacco-free environment for themselves and their babies.
Our evidence based prenatal and postpartum tobacco cessation program is built around three essential elements: Individualized Counselling, Biomarker Feedback and Contingency Management.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Our Three Core Principles
Our BMTF certified counselors provide each participant with personalized one-on-one support, helping mothers quit (and stay quit). Our program starts with with 4 Prenatal Sessions, followed by 6-12 Postpartum Support Sessions - available both in clinic or through Telehealth.
Each participant is tested with an in clinic hand-held carbon monoxide (CO) monitor at each visit. For telehealth, participants receive their own individual CO monitor that connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth. Saliva testing is used as an alternate testing method.
Free Diapers & Wipes
Once tobacco-free, participants qualify to receive a voucher that can be used to purchase diapers and/or baby wipes in participating stores and online. Vouchers can be earned at certain sessions during the pregnancy period and during postpartum sessions following delivery.
In order to join the Baby & Me - Tobacco Free Program you must meet the following requirements:
Additional requirements may apply, depending on location.
Participants enrolled in the BMTF Program attend counselling cessation sessions to receive education and support for quitting tobacco and staying quit. Sessions are conducted in person by a locally certified BMTFP Facilitator or via secure phone/video chat communication with a qualified National BMTFP Facilitator and trained Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS).
BMTF Participants are required to attend 4 prenatal sessions and 6-12 postpartum sessions (dependent on specific implementation protocol).

HOW TO REFER MOTHERS TO BMTF
Providers & Agencies
Pregnancy is an ideal window for women to quit and an opportune time for providers to encourage them to make a quit attempt.
The Clinical Practice Guideline for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependency emphasizes the important role healthcare providers and healthcare agencies have in encouraging pregnant tobacco users to consider a quit attempt. In addition, a higher proportion of women stop smoking during their pregnancy and are much more likely to consider behavioral changes, as they are more motivated to make lifestyle choices that lead to positive outcomes for themselves and for their baby.
